Angry Birds 2: Get ready for the RAGE on July 30

0

The next installment of the immensely popular Angry Birds franchise by Rovio is due on July 30th. And though technically it’s the 16th variation of the game, the official name is Angry Birds 2.

Will Angry Birds 2 be successful?

Angry Birds 1 or the first game of this franchise was launched in 2009. It became ridiculously popular.

The game has very basic rules. There are some birds. These birds are “Angry” on the mean green Pigs. So these birds which have some special powers, hurl themselves on the pigs to destroy them (maybe kill them?!) along with destructible construction behind which the pigs take cover.

Angry Birds in total has spawned 11 follow-ups with themed levels. Online play and gameplay tweaks were also introduced in the follow-ups.

A Star Wars and Transformers based Angry Birds game was also launched.

Till date, the game has been downloaded over 3 billion times.

So it’s very exciting to see what Angry Birds 2 is going to do.

“Back in December 2009, when we were just a small games studio, we released our 52nd game featuring colorful birds, green pigs, a slingshot and a super catchy theme tune. Fast forward to 2015 and Angry Birds has taken the world by storm,”

reads Rovio’s statement.

“With 3 billion game downloads, millions of fans across the globe, multiple mashups and spin-offs, collaborations with A-list celebrities and much more, we’re really proud that Angry Birds is the mother of all mobile game apps. And now we’re proud to announce the mother of all sequels – Angry Birds 2!”

Rovio currently hasn’t revealed much about the game but has assured more info on July 28, just 2 days prior to the game release.

Adobe is now up and running to solve Flash’s Vulnerabilities

0

Adobe has released an update for Flash Plug-ins for Windows, Mac, and Linux. Recently it was discovered that Hackers used vulnerabilities in the plug-in to exploit and intrude into a computer system.

With this latest update, Adobe has addressed much critical vulnerability which makes the Flash Player Plugins more competent.

Users are advised to update Flash Player to version 18.0.0.209 to protect their systems from attacks.

A week earlier an Italian surveillance/spy company Hacking Team got hacked and 400 GB of their internal data were stolen and released online.

The information released among other revelations showed that many hackers used/exploited the vulnerabilities in the plugins to attack or potentially take control of an affected system.

“A separate attack against one of these vulnerabilities shows that not sharing the discovery of vulnerabilities with the vendor or broader security community leaves everyone at risk,”

wrote Christopher Budd, global threat communications manager at Trend.

“This latest attack is yet another demonstration that Adobe is a prime target for exploit across commercial and consumer IT systems.”

He added

The current predicament of Adobes’ aging platform is quite severe. Facebook and Mozilla both have put Flash plugins in their blocklist. Mozilla is even testing an alternative to rendering SWF content.

Adobe’s Flash Player is a major target of attackers and Adobe’s behavior is quite passive in that matter. Update 18.0.0.209 will be the 7th update issued by Adobe as an emergency update for fixing a zero-day flaw in Flash Player.

Perhaps the most practical option now is to remove Flash altogether, as Flash is not that much required in our lives anyways. With the introduction and inception of HTML5, the necessity of Flash on the net is also in the decline.

Pluto Flyby: NASA’s New Horizons Probe sends Images

0

New Horizons an interplanetary space probe launched by NASA in 2006 flew by Pluto yesterday (14/July/2015). History was made as New Horizons captured the first-ever close-up images of Pluto.

It was about 7.49am EDT when this historical event (Pluto flyby) happened. At 12500 KM above Pluto’s icy cold surface, New Horizons took the astonishing picture.

As, celebration NASA had unveiled a low-res Instagram image which was quickly (after few hours) followed by a high-res image of Pluto.

It appears as a reddish dwarf with a distinctive heart-shaped mark on its surface.

Glen Fountain, the mission project manager from the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory in Laurel, Maryland, told Space.com that New Horizons is a “capstone mission”. He said,

“It is the completion of this initial reconnaissance of our solar system. It’s giving us a new perspective about how we as human beings fit into the universe.”

Now we officially have visited all 9 planets that are (or have been) considered a planet of our solar system via a robotic spacecraft.

Now of course Pluto is no longer officially recognized as a planet but there still remains a controversy since the International Astronomical Union reclassified Pluto as a dwarf planet in 2006.

The main purpose of New Horizons was to study Pluto, its moons and the Kuiper Belt. It was designed to perform flybys of the Pluto system and one or more Kuiper Belt Objects (KBOs).

So in that regards New Horizons jobs is half way finished, the New Horizons now heads for the Kuiper Belt.

But the history of New Horizons wasn’t all daisies.

New Horizons “faced a crazy number of challenges — politically, funding and priority; nuclear fuel shortages; rocket issues,”

Stern said.

“So many people stuck with this for so long. They got knocked down, they stood up. They got knocked down again, they stood up again. They would not take no for an answer.”

He added.

And all this struggle and persistence paid off in the end. Glen fountain said that when New Horizons hit its target at about 4.8 billion KM away from the earth, NASA had just struck a hole-in-one on a golf shot from New York City to Los Angeles.

NASA’s launched an app to explore Mars from the comfort of your home

0

Want to explore Mars? NASA just released a cool new app to help you do that. Just point your browser to the link below and visit Mars yourself.

Are you a space ranger just like me?

Then, you are going to love the latest app that NASA developed for fans. The app is not just another Google Earth clone. It is way beyond the limits of the Earth. Yes, you can use the app to visit Mars — all of this without leaving the comfort of your chair.

NASA new Mars Trek Website hosts the app and is available for everyone. There are few limitations to the app such as you cannot get close to the volcano or craters and that’s completely understood.

The interactive map is made using the images that are taken during the several Mars missions done by NASA in the past few decades. All of the experience, data and technology has been combined within this beautiful app. Furthermore, you can also change views and zoom in to get a closer look.

Currently, the app offers three views, north polar, global and south polar.

Additional features include an amazing layers tool which can be used to layer images from different orbiter cameras. The tool can give you some insight on the surface of the Mars.

Another great tool at your disposal is the “Bookmarks”. The idea implemented here is to have a list of locations that are worth checking. The locations are related to historical landings and other mission critical information.

For tech lovers, the app offers a simple download of STL file for the 3D model creation.

I really loved the new app from NASA, but the only drawback is that you need a good connection to experience the true beauty of Mars.

There are a lot of historical significances associated with the Mars mission, and this app really provides a doorway to our past and possibly the future. Explore Mars Here

Microsoft’s New Tossup App Lets You Poll Your Friends, Plan Events

0

Microsoft has introduced a new app called Tossup for Android phones and the iPhone that allows the users to plan and schedule group meetings and other gatherings.

So far several apps have been created, especially for Android users, which provide a proper platform for friends and colleagues to schedule their gatherings and other formal meetings.

But now there is a proper polling app known as Tossup App which provides a variety of different planning modes.

The app allows friends vote so as to decide where and when to meet. Though the app is primarily meant for scheduling gatherings and meetings, it can also be used for general polling/voting purposes. The main focus of Tossup App is to manage gatherings.

In order to use this app, you need to register yourself using your phone number and either your Facebook or email id.

After you login, you can generate different questions. You can create questions by using the formal Tossup templates e.g. “where to gather for the Lunch?” or you can write any of your own.

The app also suggests nearby restaurants, cafes, bars etc. as a gathering point so as to help you make your decision.

Microsoft has claimed that the app is focused on making “event planning and opinion-gathering a cinch.” People who have to go through the hassle of planning several meetings a week can readily understand the significance of this app .

So you can get rid of long email threads and cumbersome conversations and can have the decisions through a simple poll.

Tossup App description states that “Making decisions together might be great fun.”

All you need is to download the Tossup app and let the fun begin. Luckily, another app (web-based) has also been created by Microsoft as a side product which doesn’t require any download.

This effort by Microsoft is a great step forward in meeting management. Download here

Why Self Driving Taxis Could Mean Far Lower Emissions

0

A new research by Jeffrey Greenblatt and Samveg Saxena of the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory indicates that in the near future, cabs would be self-driven and a new era of autonomous driving is coming.

The scientists firmly believe that autonomous cars will significantly reduce the production of carbon that is considered as the root cause of global warming which is the most serious issue being discussed in environmental circles these days.

The revelation was made by the scientists in a study published in the journal Nature Climate Change

According to some estimates, carbon emission will be reduced per mile by 94% in 2030. However the researchers at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory maintain that it is impossible to reduce carbon emission by this amount if we continue to employ gasoline run vehicles in the future.

Researcher Jeffrey Greenblatt believes that the reduction rate is totally dependent on the size of the cabs.

Most of the taxis make a single or double person routes in US that means a double seater would satisfy the case”,

said Jeffery.

The research further highlighted that if an average autonomous car costs $150,000 and it runs round the clock, without any driver salary or gasoline emissions/expenses, it would reach break-even within five years.

The study also incites the researchers to extend the technology so as to include the production of bigger vehicles as well in order to limit the gasoline emissions at an even larger scale.

“You can consider the big energy savings enabled by these vehicles in near future

says Greenblatt.

I am amazed to know the costs you will save using cheaper electric-battery powered car when it runs 70,000 miles a year”,

he added.

The future of this technology depends a lot on its public acceptance. Learn More

Windows 10 Final Build to arrive this week

0
Windows 10

As the release of Windows 10 draws near, Microsoft just hyped the anticipation of the fans to a whole new level. Windows 10 final build is coming this week!

The RTM Builds are here!

The Verge has received news from reliable sources that Microsoft is planning to distribute the final copies of the Windows 10 for RTM builds by the end of this week.

RTMs might have been a big deal in previous releases of Windows, but it doesn’t carry that weight in the case of Windows 10.

Windows will no longer be releasing any more OS. They are now going with “Windows as a service” model. Hence is the reason for Windows 10 being the final version of Windows.

Now how Windows will be treating this “Windows as a service” model can be effective understood from how they are handling the builds for the users of the Windows Insider program.

Last week Windows 10 build 10158, 10159, and 10162 were released, containing minor improvements. And in just these three builds Microsoft’s “Pest-control” dealt with and removed hundreds of bugs.

Is Windows 10 Ready?

There is though a current debate about the readiness of Windows 10. And problems like some Driver issues and system glitches are still a bother. But the RTM milestone means that these won’t be a problem anymore.

Windows chief Terry Myerson said

“we will never be done.”

They have assured steady future updates for Windows 10 in the months to come. Some of these updates will include Microsoft’s Edge browser having extension support, and other app updates for built-in apps.

After the final build is out, Microsoft employees won’t still be going on their breaks as Microsoft will continue to polish the OS till public launch.

Windows 10 will be available to the testers first hand then will roll out in waves, starting July 29.
