Yesterday, Apple held a launch event to announce the iPad Air alongside the Watch Series 6 and the all-new Watch SE.

The new Series 6 Watch maintains the build of the Watch Series 4 and the Watch Series 5, but it packs new features.

The new Watch Series 6 debuts with new sensors, which allows users to monitor their blood oxygen, and also track their sleep.

It takes about 15 seconds for the Watch Series 6 to complete the blood oxygen monitoring process. The device performs this process with the help of a red and an infrared light.

Commenting on the new feature, Apple states that it is collaborating with robust health networks to begin large-scale studies using the blood oxygen measurement feature.

Inside the new Watch Series 6 is the new S6 processor, which is based on Apple’s A13 chipset. The processor is an upgrade of the S5 that debuted with the Watch Series 5 last year.

The Watch Series 6 allows the user to access control centre, change watch faces, and access notifications without fully waking the screen. It arrives with an always-on display. And according to the company, the screen on the Watch Series 6 is 2.5 times brighter than that on the Series 5.

For the pricing, the 40mm model of the Apple Watch 6 will retail for $399, and the cellular model will cost $499.

Upgraded version of the OPPO watch to feature Google’s Wear OS.

OPPO, one of the leading smartphone manufacturers in China, launched its first-ever smartwatch earlier this year. The smart wearable was named the OPPO watch.

Two months ago, the company announced an upgraded version of the OPPO watch. The model was available primarily in China and featured an updated version of the watch Wear OS.

According to a fresh piece of information from Engadget, OPPO will launch the updated version of the OPPO watch by July 31. The source also stated that the smart device would arrive pre-loaded with Wear OS by Google.

OPPO has released a promotional GIF to tease the launch of the smartwatch. At the end of the short clip, Wear OS by Google was seen on a black background, and this confirms the earlier made claims.

Although it was revealed that the new smartwatch would debut on July 31, it seems the watch has launched in Germany already.

The OPPO watch that launched in Germany arrived with some Google-powered applications like Google Pay and Google Assistant. The Chinese variant of the device, on the other hand, featured Ali Pay and Breeno Assistant.

The OPPO watch delivers a screen resolution of 360 x 360 pixels on its 1.6-inch AMOLED display. The display has curved edges and is protected by Gorilla Glass 3.

On the inside, the Snapdragon Wear 2500 alongside the Apollo 3 chipset powers the new OPPO watch. The watch is embedded with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of native storage.

In low power mode, the company claims that the 300mAh battery in the watch can power it for up to 14 days.

Furthermore, the new smart wearable has the capability of tracking activities like cycling, running, and swimming while on the user. It also features heart monitoring, sleep tracking, menstrual cycle tracking, and ECG. The watch will launch at a cost price of 249 Euros.

Redmi is yet to disclose the AirDots 2 battery capacity but claims that it can offer up to 4 hours of continuous playback.

Vuma Extends its ‘Fibre to Schools’ initiative to new locations in South Africa.

As Vuma begins the expansion of its initiative to provide schools with free internet, the company has successfully launched the Free Fibre to Schools programme in Limpopo, South Africa.

Before now, primary and secondary schools situated along Polokwane have been provided with a free 1Gbps fibre line. Polokwane is home to one of Vuma’s fibre deployment infrastructure; thus, making it easy to supply schools in the area with fast fibre internet.

Already, Adsum Academy alongside Laerskool Pietersburg – Oos are beneficiaries of this initiative. Both institutions received fibre installations, and connections with Capricom and the initiative promises to connect more schools shortly.

Recently, Vuma welcomed the fibre-to-home service in Polokwane, and this led to the launch of the free fibre internet in Limpopo. Currently, Vuma’s fibre connections are active in areas like Bendor, Flaura park, Welgelegen, Annadale, Fauna Park, and Sterpark.

The CEO of Vuma, Dietlof Mare says, ‘’Fast fibre internet is the solution to reliable and efficient e-learning experience. Although the fibre internet initiative is still in the early stages of adoption in the country. South Africa is privileged for the steps taken to make fibre technology a reality over the last decade,’’

In partnership with internet service providers in its network, Vuma started the Fibre to Schools programme with Parkhurst Primary School, Hoerskool Linden, and Greenside High back in 2016. Since then, over 380 schools across Johannesburg, Durban, Ekurhuleni, and Cape Town have been connected to the service.

For schools to benefit from this initiative, the school must be registered with either the Independent Examinations Board or the Department of Basic Education.

With a rapid and reliable fibre connectivity, schools are given the opportunity to equip learning environments with smart devices and platforms that ensure learners have access to relevant e-learning opportunities without interruption.
