It is exactly up to a month that the South Korean giant announced the first smartphone with triple rear cameras that it brings forth a sequel — the Samsung Galaxy A9 (2018).

Samsung Galaxy A9 (2018)

Samsung, today at an event in Malaysia, unveiled the Galaxy A9 (2018) as the world’s first smartphone to have not one, two, three but four optical shooters embedded on its rear. While it the quad rear cameras is the highlight of the device, the reflective two-tone colors gradient/hues of the device is another interesting introduction.

The device was earlier rumoured to be called the Galaxy A9 Star but this official announcement nullifies such reports. About the quad cameras on the rear — they are arranged in a vertical fashion on the device and come in the following order (from top to bottom):

Samsung Galaxy A9 (2018)

  1. An ultra-wide 8-megapixel camera with a 120-degree lens and f/2.4 aperture
  2. 10MP telephoto lens with a 2x optical zoom and f/2.4 aperture
  3. 24-megapixel primary camera with an f/1.7 aperture for optimal low-light photography; and a
  4. 5MP depth-sensing camera for Samsung’s Live Focus background blur / Bokeh mode

The Galaxy A9 (2018) with triple camera also had all these type of cameras save for the telephoto lens.

The device is available in three colours; Caviar Black, Bubblegum Pink, and Lemonade Blue. Like the Huawei P20 and P20 Pro, the surface of the Blue and Pink variants of the device changes as light reflects on their shiny surfaces.

Samsung Galaxy A9 (2018)

The Galaxy A9 (2018) comes with a 6.3-inch Super AMOLED Infinity display in FHD+ resolution. Above the display is a 24MP front-facing camera which supports AI features and Face Unlock. There’s a fingerprint reader on the rear, USB-C and loudspeaker at the bottom as well as the 3.5mm headphone jack.

The device will be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 636 SoC alongside with Adreno 512 GPU and 6GB of RAM. There’s a model with bigger 8GB RAM but with the same 128GB built-in memory as the base model.

The latest member of the Galaxy A-series will come with the Android 8.0 Oreo OS and a 3,800mAh battery out-of-the-box. Although the quad-camera flagship has been announced, it won’t go on sale until next month when it will retail for about $700 or more for the bigger model.
