Nigeria’s leading online marketplace, Jumia, has began promoting its Black Friday discount sales, which is expected to bring about a national holiday feeling.
Black Friday is celebrated around the world as the day after Thanksgiving with stores offering exclusive deals online and offline for one day.
It is generally known as a day shoppers try to get one over their immediate neighbors by beating them to the best discounts made available by stores.
Over 370 million shoppers participated in Black Friday sales in 2014 and they spent over $70 billion in total buying one goods or the other.
Jumia says it is bringing back Black Friday in a massive way this year and will be federating with MTN, Binatone, Mediatek, Infinix and Innjoo to bring about the biggest shopping event Nigeria has ever witnessed.
The online retailer says it will feature flash sales, exclusive fashion deals, blockbuster discounts and more at “up to 90% off for everyone.”
“1000 products with the best prices guaranteed in Nigeria will be available for Black Friday. Customers will be buried under a 24-hour long avalanche of deals and Flash Sales!”
it said in a statement.
All the big electronics and fashion brands will participate fully in the event, it said.
Jumia had brought Black Friday to Nigeria in 2013 and the event got the roof on fire in 2014. According to Jumia, over 30,000 visits were recorded on the website every minute and over 10 million page views on the Jumia website in one day.
Four hundred percent more orders were placed on that one day than on any other day of the year.
This year, lucky Black Friday shoppers will stand the chance to win extra vouchers if they shop on Jumia during the event, Jumia said and added that all items purchased on Black Friday will come with free delivery anywhere in Nigeria.
The sale is expected to be exciting and Jumia has touted it to be an epic battle of the fastest fingers.
