Infinix Hot 2 is the first Android One phone in Africa. This was revealed in a blog post by Google announcing the expansion of Android One to Nigeria and five other African countries.
Timely Android Updates
Infinix Hot 2 is a refresh of one of the most popular phone of the last few months in Nigeria, the Infinix Hot. It features the same 5-inch IPS screen but now packs more pixels offering 720 x 1280 pixels resolution.
Infinix Hot 2 also comes with an upgraded rear camera upped from 5 megapixels to 8 megapixels. The new phone also receives a battery bump, sporting a 2200 mAh battery.
But, perhaps the most significant upgrade in this generation is Google’s Android One seal of approval, which means timely Android updates and security patches, plus high quality design.
Infinix Hot 2 runs on Android 5.1 (Lollipop), but with Android One it will probably be one of the first smartphones to get the next version of the OS, the Android 6.0 (Marshmallow)
Infinix Hot 2 will be powered by a 1.3GHz quad-core processor, which is the same as the first generation model, but now gives an option of 1GB or 2GB RAM.
Infinix Hot 2 sports 16GB built-in storage and offers dual-SIM support. It also features a 2 megapixels front facing camera for taking selfies.
Infinix Hot 2 went on sale in Nigeria today exclusive to Jumia, Nigeria’s leading online store, with the variant offering 1GB RAM selling for 17,500 Naira ($88) and the 2GB variant selling for 19,500 Naira ($98).
Jumia will also be selling the phone in five other African countries, namely Ghana, Ivory Coast, Kenya, Egypt, and Morocco in a couple of weeks.
Jumia is partnering with one of Africa’s largest mobile network, MTN to offer the most cost effective data bundle in Nigeria exclusive for the Hot2 with 1GB of data for just 500 Naira ($2.50).
Infinix Hot 2 will be available in black, white, red, blue, or gold.
Infinix Hot was successful, but it is likely that Android One will make the Hot 2 a lot more successful. You can checkout the gorgeous Black model here with 2GB RAM.
