Come October 28; Honor will host a launch event in China to announce the Honor Play5 Vitality Edition. And Speculations are saying that the smartphone brand may seize the opportunity to take the covers off the Honor 30i and Honor 30 Max handsets.

Thankfully, we have some details regarding the smartphones in the Honor 30 series, and here’s all we know so far.

Specs of the Honor 30i

The upcoming Honor 30i would arrive with a 6.7-inch LCD screen with a center-positioned punch-hole. The phone’s display supports a 90Hz refresh rate, 180Hz touch sampling rate, and a Full HD+ resolution of 1080 x 2388 pixels.

The front side of the Honor 30i comes with an 8-megapixel front-facing snapper, and the back panel features a square-shaped camera module that houses the triple rear camera system. The camera module houses a 48-megapixel primary sensor alongside a pair of 2-megapixel snappers.

The Dimensity 800 chip powers the Honor 30i, and the handset would pack a 4,000mAh battery that supports 22.5W charging. The Honor 30i weighs 175 grams, and it’s 7.45mm thick – quite slim for a mid-range device.

The Honor 30i will come in Charm Sea Blue, Titanium Silver, Rose Gold, and Night Black color options and the phone also sports a side-fitted fingerprint scanner for security.

Specs of the Honor 30 Max

The Honor 30 Max handset would debut with a massive 7.09-inch LCD screen with a waterdrop notch design. It supports a Full HD+ resolution of 1080 x 2280 pixels and an 8-megapixel selfie snapper.

The Honor 30 Max’s rear panel houses a 64-megapixel + 2-megapixel dual-camera system, and it would ship with the Dimensity 900 processor. The handset relies on a 5,000mAh battery that supports 22.5W fast charging, and it sports other features like NFC, dual speakers, and a side-facing fingerprint scanner.

The Honor 30 Max weighs 227 grams, and it will debut in colors like Charm Sea Blue, Night Black, and Titanium Silver.

It’s always good news when Nigerian startups secure good funding to better their services and expand their range of products. Thus, when Infibranches Technologies Limited got a $2m funding from All On to help them boost their reach and services in the country, we didn’t skip on reporting it.

Infibranches established its services around providing a payment solution for solar energy providers in the country. Thus, these companies can focus on other parts of their solutions without worrying about building a viable digital payment service for its customers and markets that they serve too.

This investment comes from an investment company backed by Shell, showing that the oil-based firm is diversifying into the energy market in other ways. This will also give Infibranches a better access to more industry players, help them gain the trust of bigger companies and expose them to the mentorship and support of a company that has been in the energy industry for decades.

With this funding, the start-up hopes to trigger a new wave of growth through talent acquisition, inventory acquisitions, product and tech development and maintain a solid working capital, among other things.

WhatsApp working on beta feature that allows user convert voice to text

WhatsApp is working hard towards making amassing new features available for its service, and we are here for it all.

In a new spotting on the beta info dashboard, the IM giant is working on a transcription service for voice notes. In other words, they will now allow users change their voice notes into text to be sent to their contacts.

It is expected that the transcription service will happen locally on the phone so the voice texts don’t have to be sent to WhatsApp or Facebook for transcription first. With that in mind, it makes sense that the service is expected to launch on Apple’s iOS, taking advantage of speech recognition tech that Apple has baked into these devices.

We don’t have any idea of when this beta update, or the full thing, will roll out. Like many other features that are in testing, there is also no guarantee that this will even make beta phase, pass the beta phase or rollout to Android devices in the future.

Above all else, though, we are happy that the team behind this app is working on new things to better how we interact with one another online. When it makes the market, this might open up new ways to fire up the device assistant and send texts, instead of relying on voice notes all the time.

Oppo to release early Android 12 custom skin to select users

As Google works towards making sure that we have the Android 12 in October, so are OEMs who work on custom skins of their own. One of such OEMs is Oppo who develops its own ColorOS inhouse, and have now given us a date when we can expect the ColorOS 12.

As the name implies, we already know that this will be the one to bring Android 12 to devices that will be getting it. We also know that the OS will hit the markets in a September 16 launch planned for China, among other things.

Fortunately, that day will also usher in the launch of the Find X3 series which will be the first to get the beta build of the OS.

Since Google will launch the official thing in October, we expect that this will be the same month when Oppo and other smartphone makers start pushing their flagship devices to the new Android flavour.

Every year, we look forward to the new things that Google has slapped on Android for us. This year is no exception and we cannot wait to see all the amazing features that Android devices get going forward.

Google might launch the stable version to Android 12 on October 4

We don’t like that Google stopped naming its Android versions, but the Android 12 is almost upon us.

According to the roadmap of updates, the fifth and final beta build for the software has already been rolled out sometimes last week. This means that we have the stable version to look forward to next but we don’t have an official date for that yet.

We don’t think Google will give us that information anytime soon as they are busy working on making sure everything works smoothly right now. According to a post on the official XDA Developers forum, though, this global launch and rollout for the new OS could start happening from October 4.

The Pixel phones are usually the first to get the update since they were made by the same company that runs the software. Thus, it won’t be out of place if they are also the first to get the official rollout this year.

On the back of that, we need to factor in the fact that the pandemic has affected development too and the company might not be able to keep to this date. While September is looking unlikely for launch, though, we have a lot of reason to believe that October is the month when we get the latest version.

Till then, we’ll keep our fingers crossed and wait to see what the company has in store for us.

WhatsApp updates the OS that it supports with its apps from time to time, and it is that time of the year when they cut some units off again.

As of the time of this writing, the IM service won’t be supporting units running the Android OS 4.0 and older anymore. To be fair, this year makes the tenth-year anniversary of that operating system and it should not be around anymore. The least that you can do is get another device with the Android 4.1 running on it if you love that number version so much.

Samsung users need not worry as long as the device that they take to WhatsApp is not the Galaxy Ace. This seems to be the Apple device from that era, which had not been returned by WhatsApp before, that also didn’t get a bump to an OS beyond that level.

On the other business end of things, Apple devices users with less than iOS 10 running on their units will also have to forget using WhatsApp for now. Else, they port to another phone. This change will only affect those that have the iPhone 4S as their main unit.

Otherwise, you are good to go also.

These changes make it possible for the chat app to add new features that will work on all devices it currently supports without breaking anything. As operating systems advance, so do codes that go on them. Without the right framework, it is more difficult to optimise for every single OS as far back as that, so it makes sense to have things done this way.

The evidence of that growth is already showing in the company’s latest acquisition of Stabus, a Ghanaian start-up in the same industry. With this acquisition, PlentyWaka begins to make its move outside of the Nigerian market as it seeks to become a bus hailing service to be reckoned with in the whole of West Africa and even Africa at large. Since launch, the PlentyWaka service has been based on helping passengers book bus fares online and in real time like they would buy air fares. Over the past year alone, the company has enjoyed considerable growth in the area of funding and also, getting people to use and commit to its services. Thus, it makes sense that they capitalise on that current visibility to even reach more people while curating better solutions to help the existing market base. The latest funding round is led by Xchange, a Toronto-based fund, which is geared towards helping the Nigerian start-up scale, and do so fast.

Some might use this feature to separate their incognito from main tabs – or just use it to separate their web works into different sections. WhatsApp beta gets update that breaks chat history feature

WhatsApp continues to improve the full suite of services that they offer with the app, all thanks to a couple of new updates the Facebook-owned company rolled out. Now, you can choose to set your media to be viewed only once which betters user privacy – while also opting to log into as much as 4 devices at once.

However, the beta users of the WhatsApp platform have more than they bargained for when a new update brought a bug to the system. If you are on the beta version, and you are seeing that you cannot load older messages, you are not alone.

The bug is such that the older chats are still in your system, but they cannot be accessed by simply scrolling up. You can access these chats when you search for them, but you would only get an infinite scroll icon when you try to scroll up.

Some users claim that they can still access the rest of their history on WhatsApp Web but that is not possible for others.

WhatsApp is yet to officially confirm this bug, but know that you are not alone. In the next few days, we expect that they bring out a fix to nip the issue in the bud.
