Xiaomi has officially announced its 2018 flagship smartphone – the Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 – as the successor to the Mi Mix 2 which was released about this time last year. The Mi Mix 2 was one of the earliest devices that pioneered the bezel-less full display trend and now, with the Mi Mix 3, Xiaomi looks to improve upon the trend.
One of highlight feature of the device is the magnetic slider that hides/houses the dual front-facing cameras. This is to allow the display occupy more real estate on the front and minimize the amount of bezels around the display. This slider mechanism is similar to the Vivo Nex which also launched with a retractable module that hides the single camera of the device and pops up when a front camera is to be used.
The configuration of the dual cameras on the magnetic sliders are a primary 24MP (Sony IMX576) sensor and a 2MP secondary sensor. On the rear, there is also a dual 12MP Sony IMX363 (f/1.8 aperture, 1.4µm pixel size) + 12MP (f/2.4 aperture, 1.0µm pixel size) camera setup and dual-tone dual LED light.
A 6.4-inch AMOLED display in 19.5:9 aspect ratio with an unbelievable 93.4% screen-to-body ratio and Full HD+ (1080 x 2340 pixels) leaves little or next to no space on the device’s frontal. Display density is pegged at 403 ppi density and protected by an unspecified version of Corning’s Gorilla Glass.
Powering the device’s processes is the onboard Snapdragon 845 SoC with clock speed of 2.8GHz and an Adreno 630 GPU. Storage-wise, the RAM of the Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 starts at 6GB and reaches up to a stunning 10GB level. This makes the Mi Mix 3 one of the world’s first 10GB RAM smartphone. Internal storage also comes in 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB. There’s no room for storage expansion as the Mi Mix 3 lacks a micro SD card slot.
Xiaomi will lace the Mi Mix 3 with the latest Android 9 Pie operating system. There’s a USB Type-C port at the bottom of the device through which you can charge the device’s 3,200mAh Li-Ion battery. The device supports Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 4.0 and can also be charged wirelessly; the Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 comes out-of-the-box with a 10W wireless charger.
