Chinese tech company Vivo, is in the business of breaking records as regards smartphones.
Vivo had previously broken world record by launching the slimmest phone – the Vivo X5 Max, with a thickness of 4.75mm. Now the firm has broken another record by outing the first smartphone ever to sport 6GB of RAM.
The Vivo Xplay5 Elite sports numerous flagship properties and comes at a price of CNY 4,288 (roughly 133,000 Naira).
There’s however a more affordable version of the smartphone- the Vivo Xplay5, which has lower engine specs and is priced at CNY 3,698 (roughly 117,000 Naira).
The smartphones will hit the stores in China starting March 8. Availability details outside of China are yet to be released.
The dual-SIM Vivo Xplay5 Elite is the more powerful model out of the two. It features a dual curved 5.43-inch Super Amoled display with QHD (1440×2560 pixels) resolution and is made of metal with a Gorilla Glass 4 coating body.
The smartphone is powered by Qualcomm’s flagship chipset, the quad-core Snapdragon 820 SoC clocked at 2.15GHz, and paired with a whooping 6GB RAM and Adreno 530 GPU.
It also houses a huge 128GB of non-expandable inbuilt storage and sports a fingerprint sensor on its back.
The Vivo Xplay5 Elite sports a 16-megapixel rear camera with phase detection autofocus (PDAF), 6P Lens, f/2.0 aperture, and dual-tone LED flash. An 8-megapixel front-facing camera is also on board.
The smartphone supports 4G LTE networks, Hi-Fi 3.0 (2*ES9028+OPA1612), Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth v4.2, GPS and Micro-USB (with OTG). It is further backed by a 3600mAh battery and runs on Android’s 6.0 Marshmallow with Funtouch OS 2.6 skin on top.
In addition, the device comes with a bunch of sensors – gravity, ambient light, proximity, and gyroscope. Both handsets in addition have split-screen multitasking functionality.
The Vivo Xplay5 on the other hand runs Android 5.1 Lollipop with its Funtouch OS 2.5.1 skin on top. It shares the same dual curved QHD display, camera, battery, connectivity options, and inbuilt storage as seen with Xplay5 Elite.
However, it packs a less powerful octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 652 SoC clocked at 1.8GHz. There’s also 4GB of RAM and Adreno 510 GPU powering the smartphone. It has a different Hi-Fi chip – CS4395+AD45257 as well.
