For months, Samsung have failed to follow the display notch trend like many popular OEMs have done with their devices. Things seems to have changed though as the company revealed plans it had for its upcoming smartphones.
At its recently concluded Samsung Developers conference in San Francisco, the South Korean tech giant announced the company’s plans to adopt notched displays on its flagships that would launch in the future.
This might come as a sad news for some Samsung fanboys given how the company has been lauded for being the only smartphone manufacturer that stood out from the crowd. At the conference, Samsung announced the possible design, patterns, and form which its notch will come in.
Image renders showcasing three types of notches were displayed: Infinity-U, Infinity-V, and Infinity-O. The notches appear to be uniquely tiny (akin to the Essential PH-1) and looks like they can only house a single front-facing camera.
As unveiled by Samsung, the notches are shaped exactly as named. The Infinity-U notch has a U-shaped cut-out on the display, the Infinity-V a V-shaped cut-out while the Infinity-O comes with an O-shaped notch.
These are however just sketches as we expect them to appear better when they debut on phones. There was no information on which of its upcoming flagship(s) would pioneer the notch designs but there are reports that they will only appear on Samsung’s mid-range smartphones. Samsung smartphones with notches are incoming; brace up!
