About two months ago, the Indian arm of POCO announced the POCO M2 Pro in the country. The phone debuted as a remake of the Redmi Note 9 Pro global edition, but with slight distinctions.

Today, the firm hosted a launch event to announce the POCO M2 smartphone. As the name suggests, the new POCO M2 is lower, so, it occupies the position below the POCO M2 Pro.

The POCO M2 arrived in India as the cheapest POCO phone in the country, at least for now.

The smartphone packs a 6.53-inch IPS LCD Dot Display panel. The screen delivers a Full HD+ resolution of 1080 x 2340 pixels and is protected by a Gorilla Glass 3.

On the inside, the MediaTek Helio G80 chipset powers the smartphone. For advance gaming experience, it features HyperEngine gaming technology, which enhances smoother gaming experience, optimizes power consumption, and handles Wi-Fi and LTE connection.

Out of the box, the POCO M2 offers the user with 6GB of LPDDR4x RAM and 128GB of internal storage. The phone also comes with a MicroSD card slot for storage expansion.

On its backside, it carries a quad-camera system which includes a 13-megapixel primary lens, an ultrawide 8-megapixel snapper, a 5-megapixel macro lens, and a 2-megapixel depth assist camera.

The POCO M2 features an on-screen notch which houses the 8-megapixel selfie camera.

The smartphone will run on the MIUI 11 based on Android 10 OS. It operates on the company’s launcher – POCO launcher, and the firm promises that users of the POCO M2 would receive system update for the MIUI 12 as at when due.

A 5,000mAh battery, which promises a 2-day battery life, would back up the handset. The company claims that the phone can deliver 12 hours of gaming, 25 hours of video playback, 76 hours of music playback, and 26 days of standby time on a single charge. The retail box includes an 18W fast charger.

The POCO M2 arrived India in two variants; the 6GB + 64GB storage model, which retails for Rs. 10.999 (~$149) and the 6GB + 128GB storage model, which costs Rs. 12, 499 (~$170).

The smartphone is available in Pitch Black, Slate Blue, and Brick Red colour choices. Officially, the phone will go on its first sale through Flipkart.com on September 15.
