Microsoft has been selling its Surface Duo units with the notebook tablet promise and an Android experience to match, and it seems to be working for them. This week, they launched the Surface Duo 2 which they have now promised to commit up to three years of updates to.
It is worth noting that this is the same promise that they made with the original Surface Duo, and that unit is still on the Android 10 as of now. The company has promised that it is working on an Android 11 update for this unit and users should get it by the end of the year.
That said, the Surface Duo 2 comes with Android 11 out of the box. A company as massive as Microsoft is no stranger to software updates, so they should be able to work on faster updates for this one. It remains to see when it will finally get to Android 12, though.
Given the amazing work that Microsoft has done on the new unit already, we believe that they will put more effort into taking it to the newest OS when available.
