MediaTek, a Taiwan based semiconductor company, has launched a new chipset that brings 5G capabilities to mid-range devices. The chipset is called the Dimensity 800U.
The 7nm SoC is a member of the Dimensity chipset family that includes existing members such as the Dimensity 720, Dimensity 820, Dimensity 800, Dimensity 1000, and Dimensity 1000+.
The newly announced chipset is an octa-core processor with two ARM Cortex-A76 cores that clocks at up to 2.4GHz and six Cortex-A55 cores that ticks at up to 2.0GHz.
As for the graphics, the chipset features an ARM Mali-G57 GPU and comes with an Independent AI processing unit.
The Dimensity 800U supports 5G + 5G dual SIM, dual stand, dual VoNR, sub-6GHz NSA/SA networks. Onboard the chipset is a MediaTek 5G UltraSave tech that manages the operations of the modem-based network environment and quality of data transmission for improving the battery health of mobile devices.
Devices that will take on the new Dimensity 800U can handle LPDDR4x RAM and UFS 2.2. The SoC carries support for Full HD+ panels with a refresh rate of 120Hz. The display also supports MediaTek’s MiraVision PQ engine with HDR optimization and HDR10+.
Furthermore, the chipset’s IPS supports up to 64-megapixel camera and can handle as much as four rear-mounted cameras.
Other features of the new Dimensity 800U includes dual-mic noise reduction, Bluetooth 5.1, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, and multiple trigger words for different voice assistants.
