South Korean tech firm, LG has expanded its K-series of smartphones with the launch of the LG K5 and LG K8 mid-range smartphones.
The company had unveiled its K-series of mid-range smartphones at CES this year. Thus far the LG K4, K7 and K10 smartphones have been announced.
The LG K5 is scheduled to go on sale in Europe, CIS, and Latin America in the next few weeks. It will be dubbed the LG Q6 in Mexico, the firm added.
The LG K8 will be available in Asia, Africa, the Middle East, CIS and Latin America around the same time. Pricing details about each phone are expected to be released when they hit the market.
LG said the K5 and K8 smartphones like their siblings in the K-series, is basically phones with “an advanced camera” without a premium price tag.
The company also boasts of the K8, saying it comes in a premium design with curved edges and 2.5D Arc Glass.
The LG K5 bears a 5-inch FWVGA (480×854 pixels) display and is powered by a 1.3GHz quad-core processor clubbed with 1GB of RAM. Furthermore, it packs 8GB of internal memory which can be expanded via a microSD card.
The phone has a 5 megapixel rear camera and a 2-megapixel front camera is also on board. It runs on Android 5.1 Lollipop and is backed by a 1900mAh removable battery.
The LG K5 supports Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.1, and Micro-USB – and notably no 4G LTE connectivity. It will be available in Gold, Silver, and Titan colour options.
The LG K8 on the other hand features a 5-inch HD (720×1280 pixels) In-cell display and is powered by a 1.3GHz quad-core processor.
LG said the smartphone will have different RAM versions depending on the market – there’ll be a 1.5GB RAM variant in EU and North America and a 1GB RAM variant in Latin America.
The smartphone also packs 8GB of internal memory which is expandable via a microSD card slot. It sports an 8-megapixel rear camera, a 5-megapixel front camera and is backed by a 2125mAh removable battery.
The LG K8 runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow and has 4G LTE connectivity, supports WiFi, Bluetooth 4.2, NFC, and Micro-USB.
It will be available in Gold, Indigo, and White colour options. President and CEO of LG Electronics Mobile, Juno Cho, commented one the launch the phones, saying:
