Chinese handset manufacturer Gionee has announced the arrival of the Pioneer P5W, a new budget smartphone specially tailored to meet the needs of young people, in India.
The handset is trendy and comes in bright colors. Prospective users will have to dole out Rs. 6,499 (that’s about 20,000 Naira) to get the smartphone.
According to Gionee, the Pioneer P5W will be available in a range of peppy colour options including White, Black , Blue, Red and Yellow.
“The idea behind introducing P5W has been the youth and their fascination towards carrying bright colorful phones. P5W comes in exciting color ranges from white, blue, red, yellow and black etc. The look and the feel of carrying the device have been thoroughly thought after. Aiming specifically at the youth of the country, we are sure that the device would gauge tremendous interest as like its predecessors,” Timir Baran Acharyya, General Manager at Gionee India said.
The various bright color options of the Gionee P5W is the selling point of the smartphone as the rest of its features can be easily associated with what’s found on budget devices.
The smartphone comes with a 5-inch HD display and runs Android 5.1 Lollipop-based Amigo 3.1 UI out-of-the-box. There was no mention of it receiving an upgrade to Android’s Marshmallow operating system.
Under the hood, the smartphone is powered by a 1.3 GHz quad-core processor (unspecified chipset) coupled with 1GB RAM. There’s 16GB of internal memory for storage of files and apps, which is further expandable up to 128GB via a microSD card.
The Gionee’s P5W sports a 5-megapixel camera on the rear with LED flash along with a 2-megapixel front camera. The camera offers features like beautification option, filters, Panorama and Mood cards.
The phone also sports a new customised lock feature, called the AMI lock. With it one can scan one’s face to unlock the phone within 0.5 seconds.
On the connectivity front, it supports 2G, 3G, Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi, and microUSB. The Gionee Pioneer P5W is backed by a 2,000 mAh battery.
