Last week, Google announced its plan to open up its second African office in Lagos, Nigeria. We thought that was all until yesterday. The international tech firm seems to have developed a keen interest in Nigeria.

Google has partnered up with the Nigerian Tourism Development Corporation in a bid to promote tourism in the country.

Also, through the collaboration with the NTDC, Google aims to train small businesses, equip young individuals with digital skills initiatives, and to launch Tour Nigeria – a new Google Arts & Culture collection.

The announcement, which aired yesterday October 1, seems to be a little Independence Day gift from the tech Giant to Nigeria and its citizens. The partnership is looking to sky-rocket the growth of the tourism sector in Nigeria.

However, for several months now, Google has been working with the NTDC to design an online exhibition of pictures, stories, and commentaries. The digital showcase basis on some of Nigeria’s beautiful locations and precious artefacts.

The project features locations like the Osun Osogbo sacred groove, the Awhum Caves of Enugu, the Wikki Warm spring of Bauchi State, and many more.

Further, stories and pictures of some of the colourful festivals in the country are also part of the ongoing project.

‘’Rich heritage, natural beauty, and vibrant cities. Nigeria is a destination we all need to include in our travel shortlist. Even though 2020 continues to be a challenging year for all, I do hope this unique online experience will contribute to the growth of Nigeria’s tourism sector. Though I can’t travel, the project inspired me to start exploring the country through the works of Wole Soyinka,’’ says Director for Google Arts & Culture, Amit Sood.

OPPO, one of the leading smartphone manufacturers in China, launched its first-ever smartwatch earlier this year. The smart wearable was named the OPPO watch.

Two months ago, the company announced an upgraded version of the OPPO watch. The model was available primarily in China and featured an updated version of the watch Wear OS.

According to a fresh piece of information from Engadget, OPPO will launch the updated version of the OPPO watch by July 31. The source also stated that the smart device would arrive pre-loaded with Wear OS by Google.

OPPO has released a promotional GIF to tease the launch of the smartwatch. At the end of the short clip, Wear OS by Google was seen on a black background, and this confirms the earlier made claims.

Although it was revealed that the new smartwatch would debut on July 31, it seems the watch has launched in Germany already.

The OPPO watch that launched in Germany arrived with some Google-powered applications like Google Pay and Google Assistant. The Chinese variant of the device, on the other hand, featured Ali Pay and Breeno Assistant.

The OPPO watch delivers a screen resolution of 360 x 360 pixels on its 1.6-inch AMOLED display. The display has curved edges and is protected by Gorilla Glass 3.

Redmi announces the AirDots 2 TWS earphones in China.

Last year March, Redmi announced its first true wireless earphones – Redmi AirDots. The smart accessory carried a price tag of 99 Yuan (~$14). Within a few months of launch, the Redmi AirDots became so popular, and the company recorded the sales of over 3 million units.

In April, Xiaomi, under the Redmi brand, rolled out another model of its wireless earphones. The new model launched with advanced connectivity. It was named Redmi AirDots S.

Now, the brand has launched the second generation of its true wireless earphones – Redmi Airdots 2.

The Redmi AirDots 2 come with a 7.2mm sound driver. The company claims the sound driver is capable of producing powerful low-frequency outputs, mid-frequency sound, and high-frequency sound.

One significant difference between the AirDots and the AirDots 2 is the advance Bluetooth chip. Unlike the first generation AirDots that came with Bluetooth 4.2 support, the AirDots 2 is equipped with Bluetooth 5.0.

The Bluetooth 5.0 chip in the AirDots 2 allows for faster connection and data transmission between the earphones and connected devices.

Tapping the earphones twice activates the XiaoAI Voice Assistant.

The company includes in the retail box, small, medium, and large earplugs to ensure the comfortability of every user.

Redmi is yet to disclose the AirDots 2 battery capacity but claims that it can offer up to 4 hours of continuous playback.

From July 22, the AirDots 2 will be available for crowdfunding. During the crowdfunding campaign, each unit will be sold for 79 Yuan, which approximates to about $11. Once the campaign is over, the Redmi AirDots 2 will retail for 99 Yuan (~$14).
