OnePlus has made a name for itself in developing flagship devices at a fraction of the price that other OEMs sell their units for. However, it seems that they have not been as keen when it comes to the security of their users.
The flaw in question is a result of using the ‘Shot on OnePlus’ app which doesn’t encrypt the transfer of data between the user’s device and the servers they are sending their images through.
To use the app, you would have to register with an email ID. The flaw was such that whenever an image is sent, the email information of such a user is also sent alongside it.
OnePlus just caught wind of this problem last month and has since sent a patch to fix it, but there is no telling how many people it has affected already. There is also no indication of when the problem started, but users will be glad they now have official support to get out of this bind.
