One of the largest online job placement websites in sun-Saharan Africa, Jobberman, has entered into a partnership with Mastercard Foundation to provide solutions to the problem of unemployment in Nigeria.

The partnership is aimed at training 5 million job seeks and proving over 3 million applicants with employment over the next five years.

Presently, the duo is already putting plans in place to start the training of about 200,000 job seekers. Mastercard Foundation and Jobberman look forward to provide nothing less than 120,000 applicants of the 200,000 to be trained with employment before the year runs out.

The partnership’s primary focus is to impact the lives of the youth, especially those living in the Northern part of the country.

The combined unemployment and underemployment rate in Nigeria was recorded to be 43.3% according to the most recent data from the National Bureau of Statistics. This means almost 50% of Nigeria’s population is either unemployed or underemployed.

The rate of unemployment will most likely increase considering the impact of COVID-19 on the economy.

Jobberman and Mastercard Foundation plans to equip Nigerian job seekers with desirable skills to increase their chances of securing employment in a jam-packed job market.

The training will base equipping job seekers with soft skills such as time management, business etiquette, ad emotional intelligence. The training will be done both online and offline for people without internet access.
