As Facebook continues to expand its investment and footprint in Africa, the tech giant has announced its plan to open a new office in Nigeria – Lagos State.
According to Facebook, the office will start operations in the second half of 2021. It aims at supporting the Sub-Saharan African region.
Besides, it will be the second office the firm is opening in the whole of Africa.
Facebook further stated that the office would be the first in Africa to harbour a team of experts dedicated to building the future of Africa.
Facebook’s Head of New Product Experimentation, Ime Archibong, said, ‘’Opening a new office in Lagos, Nigeria presents us with new and exciting opportunities. There a several digital innovations to be designed from the continent and portrayed to the rest of the world,’’
‘’Across Africa, there are lots of bright and talented minds in the tech ecosystem. With the upcoming opening of our office, we will be happy to work with such bright minds in designing products for the future of Africa. We look forward to propelling the African tech ecosystem.’’
In 2015, the tech firm opened its first office in Africa. Since it began operations in Africa, it has made several investments aimed to support the growth of technology on the continent.
The company’s regional director, Nunu Ntshingila, said, ‘’We are excited to open a new office in Nigeria. Five years after we launched our first office in Africa, we are still committed to supporting and investing in local talent.’’
