Lenovo’s first try at a full bezel-less smartphone was the Lenovo Z5. The device ended up being disappointing as it sported a display notch that totally goes against the idea of a full bezel-less device. The OEM has however decided the right their wrongs by releasing a sequel to the device with no display notch and extremely slim bezels.
The device is called the Lenovo Z5 Pro and according to Lenovo, it has a 95.06% screen to body ratio. The Super AMOLED display is in 19.5:9 aspect ratio, occupies almost all the space on the front of the device, and measures 6.39-inch. Display resolution is set at Full HD+ (2340 x 1080 pixels).
To achieve this unbelievably slim bezel, Lenovo placed the earpiece and selfie shooters on a slider. This is similar to what Xiaomi did with the Mi Mix 3. This slider is advantageous as it properly hides the dual front-facing primary 16MP main sensor and secondary 8MP infrared sensor. However, it adds a bit of chunk to the device’s weight (210 grams) and thickness level (9.3mm).
Asides the front-facing cameras, other sensors present on the slider include an infrared light and a proximity sensor. The Z5 Pro’s front cameras come with AI enhancement features and support for IR Face recognition technology.
There is also a dual (vertically arranged) camera setup on the rear. The primary camera is a 24MP Sony IMX576 sensor while the secondary sensor is a 16MP Sony IMX519 sensor. Both lenses have an aperture of f/1.8, dual-tone LED flash, HDR, AI-supported scene recognition, super night mode, and many more features.
This time around, Lenovo has stripped the traditional 3.5mm headphone jack from the Z5 Pro and added a 3.5mm to USB-C adapter out-of-the-box. Also, the Chinese-manufacturer will be selling a Lenovo Air Wireless Bluetooth headset as an optional accessory for users buying the Z5 Pro.
Under the hood is a Snapdragon 710 AIE system-on-chip with 6GB RAM and 64GB internal storage. For the heavy smartphone users who keep a lot of multimedia and other documents on their devices, there is a bigger variant with 128GB of storage. Both storage variants come with an external storage support via the micro SD card slot.
The Lenovo Z5 Pro is equipped with a 3,350mAh built-in battery with support for 18W fast charge. The device is priced at $287 for the base variant with 64GB internal memory while the 128GB option will set users back by $330. To mention, the device will only be available in the Black colour option. And sadly, there was no mention of another colour variant launching anytime soon.
Pre-orders for the Lenovo Z5 Pro have commenced but official sales is expected to begin by November 11.
