Popular Chinese company, Gionee, have expanded its series of big-battery-packing smartphones with the arrival of the Marathon M5 Plus and the Marathon M5 Enjoy smartphones.
Both phones pack similar features with the Gionee Marathon M5 and have been made available for purchase in China.
The Gionee Marathon M5 Plus is priced at CNY 2,499 (approximately 77,000 Naira) and comes in gold and silver color variants.
The Marathon M5 Enjoy on the other hand has a price tag of CNY 1,999 (about 62,000 Naira) and is only available in the golden color.
The Gionee M5 Plus comes with a significantly more powerful Mediatek MT6753 chipset which sports an octa-core CPU.
Added to this is 3GB of RAM just like the M5 but built-in storage has been doubled to 64GB, and you can further expand it by up to 128GB via microSD.
The model comes in a 6-inch FullHD AMOLED display and 5,020mAh battery power, which is slightly less than the M5’s. The smartphone measures 160.9 x 81.2 x 8.4mm, and weighs in at 208g – 3g lighter than the 5.5-inch M5.
There is a 13MP camera on the back which comes with phase detection autofocus and a single LED flash, while the front camera is a 5MP unit.
The Gionee M5 Plus also has a fingerprint sensor on the front in place of the capacitive home key of other Gionee models. It supports fast charging via a reversible Type-C connector and runs on Android 5.1 Lollipop.
The handset also supports 2G/3G, WiFi and LTE, as well as Bluetooth 4.0.
The Gionee M5 Enjoy on the other hand comes with a 5.5-inch 720p TFT display. It is powered by a 5,000mAh battery and runs on Android 5.1 Lollipop.
The smartphone has a less powerful 8MP front camera and a 5MP rear camera is also on board.
There rest of the specs are mostly the same – a Mediatek MT6735 chipset with a quad-core CPU and 3GB of RAM. Internal storage on the device has been sliced halved to 16GB, but is still expandable via a MicroSD slot.
Connectivity options include several bands of 2G/3G, LTE, Wifi and Bluetooth, just like other M5 smartphones.
